When traditional parenting advice wasn’t working for their complex kids and they couldn't find the support they needed, Elaine Taylor-Klaus and Diane Dempster created it. As co-founders of impactADHD®/ImpactParents.com in 2011, they are now internationally recognized parent educators with an expertise in coaching and neurodiversity, helping parents reduce the stress of raising children, teens, and young adults in the modern world. Whether kids are diagnosed with challenges like ADHD, Anxiety, Dyslexia, or Autism, or they're struggling with life, learning or behavior, ImpactParents' coach-approach can help the adults in their lives guide them, empower them, and lead them to independence. The creators of Sanity School® parent training, hosts of the podcast, "Parenting with Impact," authors of many books including Parenting ADHD Now: Easy Intervention Strategies to Empower Kids with ADHD and The Essential Guide to Raising Complex Kids with ADHD, Anxiety and More, Elaine & Diane provide foundational training, coaching and support for parents and the professionals who support them.
What do you recommend to help clients focus on their work?
Parents of complex kids often struggle to get their heads around how to navigate all of the issues needed to support their kids. While there is no one strategy, it helps a lot to learn to get curious about what's happening for their kids, and to ask themselves the question, "Is this behavior naughty or neurological?"
What is a superpower of people with ADHD?
Extraordinary ability to overcome obstacles (resilience)
What do you love about working with clients?
Seeing families reconnect, relationships improve, and communication shift so that parents are able to support their kids -- and their kids (of any age) feel understood, seen, and empowered.
Why do you refer clients to focused space?
Great for parents to have vetted resources
