Best way for potential clients to contact you
Shannon is a queer, polyamorous psychologist who loves to help folx retire from people pleasing. Instead of judging our habits of prioritizing others, striving for perfectionism, or persistently preparing for worst case scenarios, Shannon honors how important these coping strategies have been in creating a sense of relative safety. Therapy includes finding relief from places where these behaviors have become out of balance with our own needs. Working together includes unpacking how systems of oppression and cultural narratives (e.g. racism, patriarchy, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, mononormativity, purity culture, diet culture, fat phobia, capitalism) compound the message to mask, put yourself last, or operate out of fear.
What do you love about working with your clients?
Love watching them feel powerful! I get excited to see folks move from a place of reacting out of fear to acting intentionally out of a place of clarity.
What do you recommend to help clients focus on their work?
We get a lot of explicit and implicit messages that we "should" be able to just do the hard thing on our own. In reality, we're social creatures who are built to rely on one another for support. Don't do it alone! Focused space community sessions are a great way to feel connected while moving toward our goals.
How would you describe your unique style of working with clients?
Ultra-super extra validating. I really want to let you know on a deeeeep level that what you are experiencing makes sense. From that space of feeling understood, we work on how to find relief from the parts of your experience that are painful.
